Only God is perfect
Perfection is reserved for God. We’re human and we have human strengths and weaknesses. No one expects you to be perfect. Perfection can lead to unhealthy behavior. It appears that perfectionism especially afflicts
people with high IQs. Interesting isn’t it? People that are the most capable, have the higher Intelligence Quotients are procrastinators, shirks, quitters or they won’t even try. People that have to be perfect won’t
try things because they recognize that they may fail and failure isn’t perfect. Perfectionists put things off because then they have the excuse, “Well of course it wasn’t perfect. I didn’t even start till the last
minute.” Perfectionism is one of those great equalizers in life. We all have our own challenges and opportunities in this life. You may not be the smartest person or have the highest IQ and maybe you’re having more
fun because of it. Maybe in this lifetime you don’t have to learn about perfectionism.
Perfect is a reasonable goal if you can tolerate failure.
God is perfect. Everyone on a growth path seeks to be more God like. Seeking perfection is like needing to jump over a fence and choosing the moon as your goal. You will not jump over the moon but you may very well
clear the fence. So it’s great to have a goal of being perfect - just don’t expect to get there. Sometimes a flower or a scene from a mountain top or a special day is perfect. Perfect is a great goal as long
as we recognize it’s only a direction we set for ourselves. We are human. We may experience perfect and we will never be perfect. What we can be is content and proud.
Try this:
Focus on what you did accomplish. Next time you miss your goal or target, focus on what you did accomplish. Was the goal in the right direction? Did you make progress toward your goal? Are you further along the path
than you were before you started? Yes it would have been perfect if … Isn’t it great that you tried and learned from your experience?
