How to get what you want

To get what you want, you have to know what you want.  Write down what you want. Write down your goals and dreams. Write down values or characteristics you want like happiness or to be honest. Write down what you are grateful for. Make a list of things that you enjoy and the things that you want to do.  Do you want good health, a new house, more vacations, world peace? Knowing what you want makes it easier to get what you want. This is an intellectual exercise. Here’s a chance for you to use your analytical abilities to create your wish lists.  It’s the first step; knowing what you want.

Become emotionally involved with your wants and wishes.  Make your lists accessible to your lower self, your emotional self, by putting your wish lists where you will see them and read them. Put your wish lists on your bedroom wall. Put them on the mirror in your bathroom. Put them on the dashboard and by the phone. Create a list of what you want from your job or school and put it in your briefcase, your purse, your lunchbox or your locker. The idea is to spend more emotional energy thinking about what you want.  The more you think about and really feel that you want something, the more likely you are to get it.  Desire, honest desire, is emotional energy. You can direct your emotional energy by focusing on what you want.

Increase your commitment to your wants. Read your lists often. Read them out loud to your selves.  Read them out loud in front of a mirror.  When you are thinking about what your want, stand in front of a mirror, look yourself in the eyes and say, “I am pretty.” “I am healthy.” “I have 8 weeks of vacation.” “I have a new car.” Find someone with whom to share your wants and read your lists to them. The more you do these things the easier it becomes. When you say, “I vacation in Spain.”, you get to try it out and see how it feels. Visualizing yourself in Spain will let you “see” how it feels and the emotional involvement will reinforce your desire.  Emotional energy is used by your higher power to actualize your dreams. Maybe this is what is meant by, “God helps those that help themselves.”

Try this:

Create a wish wall where you can “see” what you want.  Get a picture of that new car and put it on your wish wall. Get a picture of that dress you’ll fit into one day. Cut out pictures from a brochure of the golf clubs you want. Put up a picture of the beach where you’re going on vacation. Use pictures to help you visualize what you want.
